Keeping The Republic is proud to publish this Professional Military Education (PME) syllabus, which was created by Maj Timothy Riemann of the United States Marine Corps. Maj Riemann’s course is entitled “Where Good Ideas Come From.” It allows students at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College to develop their own interdisciplinary reading list on a wide range of non-military topics. Students then present and discuss their readings at regular seminars. The course was initially offered in early 2019 and anonymous student feedback indicated that the course served to re-light the intellectual curiosity of students while serving to broaden their knowledge beyond strictly military topics.
Resources created by Maj Riemann:
Syllabus
Course Overview (PowerPoint)
Initial Guidance for Students
Course Critiques
